Exposition of Large-Scale Machinery
of the Ural Works

Sheet-forge hammer from Neivo-Shaitansky works (manufactured in 1826) opens the exposition. The hammer was used to prepare sheet billets from iron balls and ingots.

Together with the originals dating from the 19th century a model of Bessemer converter from Nizhne-Saldinsky works is also on display.

The Ural works widely used foreign technological experience. Steam reversible machine (Erhard & Semmer machine) operated in the late 19th century and was manufactured in Germany and assembled at the works under the direction of a famous Ural engineer, metallurgist Grum-Gzhimailo.

Mill stand from Neivo-Shaitansky works (early 19th century) supplies an idea of 19th-century rolling production.

Steam hammer manufactured by Kramatorsk machine-building plant for UZTM in 1938 represents the machinery of the 20th century. It stamped articles from the variety of carbon and alloyed steel. Parallel with die hammers a double-crank press produced by Komintern machine-building plant (Zlatoust) was used in a forge-and-press shop.

One more foreign item is a bridge crane. It is a unique example of load-lifting machinery. A bridge crane of British production operated at Verkh-Isetsky iron-and-steel works till the 1970s. Its manual drive was capable of lifting up to 15 tons.
